Week of Giving: The Thanksgiving Giveaway

All this week, we’re featuring stories about how our students are giving back to the New Palestine and surrounding communities.

Today’s “Week of Giving” story is about New Palestine High School  teacher Miss Temple’s six English classes and a service project they complete during the second half of the semester.

The students have started a partnership with Caring Place Reach, an inner-city outreach program.

The students worked with two different programs through Caring Place Reach. The first, Thanksgiving Giveaway, provides free Thanksgiving dinners to the less fortunate that they can take home to their families. The second, The Christmas Store, allows children who may not have any gifts waiting for them to go shopping for free at a store stocked with many different kinds of toys.
The students facilitated every aspect of the fundraiser, from determining how exactly to fundraise all the way through volunteering on their own time at Thanksgiving Giveaway or The Christmas Store.

Through our students’ hard work and generosity, they raised enough money and collected enough toys to feed 5,000 people for Thanksgiving and provide toys for more than 1,000 children this holiday season!
Congratulations to Miss Temple and her English classes! Your hard work and generosity makes us New Pal Proud!
