Board Business: August 2022

This blog post is intended to keep you up to date on the happenings of the Board of School Trustees of the Community School Corporation of Southern Hancock County. Please read below for a recap of the board’s meeting on August 15, 2022.

Monday’s meeting began with the approval of the annual New Palestine Junior High field trip to Cincinnati, OH on May 19, 2023.

The board heard a second reading of 15 new policies. As mentioned in June’s board recap, the board is transitioning from NEOLA to Church, Church, Hittle, and Antrim for policy curation and management. As a part of this process, new policies must be adopted and old policies must be deleted. The 15 new policies were approved. Ten additional new policies were heard in a first reading. These policies will return for a second reading in September prior to a vote for approval.

The board approved a construction project for a new maintenance building near the Bittner Rd. entrance to New Palestine High School. The project also includes an expansion to the CSCSHC Bus Garage.

The board heard three reports Monday night. Assistant Superintendent Katy Eastes and NPHS Assistant Principal presented about the corporation’s Grow Your Own teacher recruitment program. The corporation has created a pathway through Indiana University for students to complete some college coursework prior to graduation, which will allow them to return to our corporation as licensed teachers sooner.

Director of Instructional Services Miles Hercamp and Curriculum Coordinator Brian Dinwiddie presented to the board about the district’s ILEARN and IREAD scores from the previous school year.

Assistant Superintendent Bob Yoder and Assistant Business Manager Sarah Gizzi presented to the board about the district’s 2023 budget. This report is provided to help the board understand what the budget will look like for next year. This budget review is the first step in a process related to the board’s approval of the budget later this year.

The board’s next meeting is Monday, September 12 at the CSCSHC Administration Office at 6:30 p.m.
