Board Business: June 2022

This blog post is intended to keep you up to date on the happenings of the Board of School Trustees of the Community School Corporation of Southern Hancock County. Please read below for a recap of the board’s meeting on June 6, 2022.

Monday’s meeting began with the approval of two donations from the New Palestine Education Foundation. Each CSCSHC school received $500 at last month’s Gala fundraiser. Brandywine Elementary received an extra $100 for having the highest percentage of staff in attendance. NPEF also donated $7,000 to the corporation to be used for teacher development.

The board approved the 2022-2023 district student handbook in a second reading. It will be available on the district’s website soon.

The board reappointed New Palestine Junior High School teacher Fred Fox as the district’s representative on the Hancock County Public Library Board. Mr. Fox will enter his second term on the library board.

The board also approved the deposit of the 2022 Supplemental Local Income TAP Distribution into the Rainy Day Fund. This money comes from income taxes collected by the state that are in addition to what the district is budgeted to receive in estimated tax revenue. Each year, any supplemental distributions provided to the district are typically placed in the Rainy Day Fund.

Three special education contracts were approved. The district will once again partner with Square 1, LLC for mental health services. A renewal of an agreement with First Steps to help transition 3-year-olds out of First Steps and into the Little Dragons Early Learning Program was also approved. Finally, the board approved an agreement with Educational Audiology Resource Solutions for audiology services.

A revision to policy #167.3 was approved. This policy was updated in accordance with changes made by the Indiana legislature that go into effect on July 1, 2022.

The board approved a resolution and an engagement letter to transition policy curation and management to Church, Church, Hittle, & Antrim Attorneys at Law.

A resolution requested by Assistant Superintendent Bob Yoder to approve a new PERF position was passed. PERF benefits come to most state employees. However, with the creation of a new School Resource Officer position within the district, this resolution was necessary to make those benefits available to the new employee.

The board’s next meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the CSCSHC Administration Office.
